The Community Church provides extraordinary, quality music each Sunday in a variety of forms—blues, jazz, bluegrass, folk, rock, and classical. One week we may feature a Chicago-based trio while the next week our church “Dancing Bohemian Ukulele Team” will provide music. What remains consistent each week is high quality music that inspires. Music Minister Ken Hall's strong reputation for musical excellence continues to attract top rated musicians. The Community Church has been a Sunday morning home to such musicians as: Don Stiernberg, Steve Rashid, Alejo Poveda, David Hawkins, Soul Message Band, Nic Barnum, Cheryl Wilson, Ally Ahern, Terry Moran, Fred Koch, Elliott Delman, Christina Trulio, Suede, Bobby Newman and Rokko Jans, to name but a few.
The Bells of Ávila
The afternoon sun Flooding the street But you don’t belong there Where the street people meet A house and family Is no kind of life Teresa don’t wanna be Nobody’s wife
So up on a hill You follow your prayer To live with your sisters Cloistered up there And you cherish the scars With each breath that you draw Under the stars of Ávila
Allá en el fuego eterno The endless inferno Of frescoes that bear no Resemblance to works of Madonna and Child The Pope just ignores you; he thinks that you’re wild So you take off your shoes and you walk all the miles That only a saint could endure
A warrior of innocence Right from the start Siempre Teresa here in my heart
Everyone dies, but does everyone suffer? Your faith made you strong But your life made you tougher.
It’s a tale that I tell With each breath I draw For I still hear the bells of Ávila Still under the spell of Ávila I still hear the bells… of Ávila
